Compost....Towards Greener Living

When we shifted to this new home, i knew that we will face the waste disposal problem. But i was darn sure that i will never throw my household generated waste on road  or beside it. Neither will i be burning it up just like what my neighbors do. And so i started searching the internet for an Eco friendly waste disposal mechanism. Most of the disposal method required help from an external or a third party but that wasn't something that i was looking for....

Finally, i stumbled upon the method that is in practice for the past many centuries(may be)...Off course i'm talking about composting. Something which was in practice centuries before :) However i wasn't comfortable to dig up an area around my house to create the compost pit. Finally, the container compost came to my rescue.
I got 3 terracotta pots. Big pots in fact :) Painted them so that it looks beautiful(yes! i wanted my waste disposal to be beautiful)...

 
This is how the entire compost collection works.... Assume the pots to be A B and C. A being the topmost, B being the middle and C being the bottom most

1. The kitchen waste(Green Waste) is dumped into the topmost pot A. 
2.This is mixed throughout with equal amount of dried leaves or sawdust(brown waste)
3. These are left to rot!!! or to phrase better...left to be turned into black gold

When the topmost pot fills up, move it be in the middle. The arrangement now is B A C. Now follow the three steps with the middle pot.
When the middle pot(B) also fills up move the contents of A to C.You'll see that A is only half full now -attributed to the eating up of waste by the worms. So now, A is empty, B is full and C is half...put A on top. The arrangement is A B C. When A fills up, move B's content to C... Continue this process...
When you'll reach a position when A, B and C are full, transfer the content of C to an empty pot. This could be now sieved and used in your garden.

Its been more than 7 months now and i've harvested my compost twice...which has been duly used in my small graden....
Well if you have no clue what to do with it...just throw it away....it will still nourish the earth :)
